- Disk Setup
-
- 1. First, make a backup of this disk, and always backup your daily input.
- 512K RAM and HFS necessary.
-
- 2. MacAnalyst can be placed on any disk, but the folder ╥Stocks╙ must
- be present on the same disk. MacAnalyst can be on the desktop or in
- the folder. Do not rename the folder in any way.
-
- 3. When starting a new portfolio of stocks, empty (trash) the folder
- completely or create a new folder called ╥Stocks╙. When you run
- MacAnalyst with an empty folder, a new ╥Symbols╙ file will be
- automatically created along with a ╥MAX╙ file.
-
- 4. The stock files included with this program are for demo purposes
- only, and are not intended to be used for charting or updating.
- MacAnalyst can handle a maximum of 200 stocks.
-
-
- File Menu
-
- Set MA: This function sets the moving average. It remains in effect
- until changed. I recommend using a 30 day average.
-
- Stock Split: When a stock split occurs, this function will allow you to
- split your file accordingly. In most cases 90 days of data
- will be split, but a partial number of days can also be
- split. i.e. 1 to 89, 1 to 60, etc.
-
- Update MAX: This refers to the Mac Index, which is an index of any or
- all of the stocks in your portfolio. To include a stock in
- this index, add a postscript sign (á) after the stock
- symbol. i.e. AAPLá, IBMá, etc. The key sequence for this
- sign is caps lock up - option - T. Make sure at least one
- of your stocks is included in this index or parts of this
- program will not run properly. Use this function after
- editing, updating or creating any stocks included in the
- Mac Index.
-
- Arms Index: This file is updated when you run the Update Max function.
- It can be used to determine market direction. As you can
- see with the demo stocks, I use high tech stocks for this
- purpose as they tend to lead the market. The 30 Dow
- Jones Industrials would also be a good indicator. A 10
- day average is normal, but you can use a 5 day average for
- short term trading or 15-30 days for long term trading.
- When the index is above 1.00 the market is bearish, and
- bullish when the index is below 1.00.
-
- Add Symbols: Before creating a new stock with the Auto Create or
- Manual Create, you must add the stock symbol and com-
- pany name. Do not use more than 5 characters for the
- symbol. i.e. ABCDE, ABCDEá, etc. Make sure the company
- name does not exceed the length of the input field.
-
- Delete Symbols: This function will delete symbols and erase the stock
- file if you wish. If you delete a file included in the
- Mac Index then update the index. Do not trash a file
- before deleting the symbol or you will not be able to
- find it in the dialog window. If this occurs, you will
- have to open up the ╥Symbols╙ file with miniWriter and
- delete the stock symbol and company name by hand.
- Make sure to also change the number of files listed on
- the first line of the ╥Symbols╙ file.
-
- Rename Symbols: This function is used when a company changes its
- name or stock symbol. If you are just changing the
- symbol, you can leave ╥Company Name╙ in the input
- field and the old name will remain the same.
-
- Sound On/Off: If my music gets on your nerves just turn it off.
-
- Print Screen: Will print screen to Imagewriter or Laserwriter.
-
- Print Data Files: Will print out all or partial data in stock files only
- to dot matrix printers. (Imagewriter) Any print
- button will print only to dot matrix printers.
-
-
- MacAnalyst Menu
-
- Auto Update: This function should be used only when downloading
- daily stock quotes from Dow Jones. After downloading,
- check the file with miniWriter to make sure there were
- no transmission errors before updating. Place the
- downloaded file on the desktop. After updating you can
- delete the file on the desktop. The Max file will also
- be updated. It is not necessary to place the ╥á╙ sign
- after the stock symbols in the update file. I name the
- file ╥Quotes╙ to correspond with the name in the input
- field. A sample macro for Red Ryder is included.
-
- Manuel Update: This function will enable you to manually update all
- your stock files. Use the following examples as a guide:
- 12 - Enter 12 12 1/8 - Enter 12.125
- 12 1/4 - Enter 12.25 12 3/8 - Enter 12.375
- 12 1/2 - Enter 12.5 12 5/8 - Enter 12.625
- 12 3/4 - Enter 12.75 12 7/8 - Enter 12.875
- You may skip a file if a quote is not available. After
- updating all of your files, make sure to update the
- Max file. If you just want to update a few stocks, then
- click mouse after selecting Manual Update. You will
- then be prompted for the symbol and data.
-
- Update note: When updating, if a stock closes up or down by 10 or
- more points the program will notify you by placing
- an asterisk (*) before the symbol while sounding off.
-
- Edit File: This function enables you to edit any file. It is not necessary
- to enter the ╥á╙ sign after the stock symbol. In fact, it is
- only necessary to use the ╥á╙ sign when adding symbols,
- renaming symbols, or creating new files.
-
- Auto Create: This function should be used only when downloading
- historical quotes from Dow Jones. After downloading
- check the file with miniWriter to make sure there were
- no transmission errors before creating. Unfortunately
- there will be minor errors as you will see. It is necessary
- to enter the ╥á╙ sign after the stock symbol in the ╥New
- File╙ input field. Place the downloaded file on the desktop.
- The new stock file will be created in the ╥Stocks╙ folder.
- After checking to make sure the new file was created OK,
- delete the file on the desktop. Using the sample macro
- for Red Ryder, you will only be able to download one stock
- at a time. Check the ╥OTC╙ button only if you downloaded
- a stock with just the bid and asked price.
-
- Manual Create: This function should be used when creating new files
- by hand. First, use the Add Symbols function then the
- Manual Create function. It is necessary to enter the ╥á╙
- sign after the stock symbol in the ╥New File╙ input field.
- You may abort by inputing 4 blanks or 4 zeros.
-
- Moving Average: This function generates the actual stock charts with
- a moving average and least square regression line. The
- top chart shows the high, low and close along with
- the MA and L/S. The bottom chart shows the the last
- 30 days (MA) along with the volume. The width of the
- rectangles indicates the volume. There are several
- hidden features. If you click the stock symbol at the
- upper right hand corner, and hold the mouse down, a
- window will open showing the company name. Release
- the mouse button and the window will close. If you
- move the crosshair cursor to any single bar and hold
- the mouse button down, that days╒ figures will appear
- to the right. Release the mouse button and the last
- day (90) will reappear. If you wish to see a 5, 10, 20,
- 30, or 40 day average, click the corresponding icons
- just to the right of the chart. These icons indicate
- the buying/selling volume for the last 5, 10, 20, 30
- and 40 days. At the lower right hand corner is the
- Volume %. The screen will invert if the volume
- reaches 150% or more of its average volume. The
- entire chart will blink twice under the following
- conditions: If the stock drops below or rises above its
- moving average. If the moving average crosses over
- or under the least square regression line.
-
- Real Time Averages: Same as above. This function can be used during
- the trading day or as a what if situation. If you
- do not enter the volume, the volume from the
- previous day is used.
-
- Review All Files: Review all charts alphabetically.
-
- Daily Analyzer:
-
- Bullish Stocks: All stocks trading above their moving average.
-
- Bearish Stocks: All stocks trading below their moving average.
-
- Daily Analyzer: This function checks all stock files for any of the
- following changes from the 89th to the 90th day:
-
- 1. Buy - stock moves above its moving average.
- 2. Sell - stock moves below its moving average.
- 3. Vol - volume reaches 150% of its average volume.
- 4. C/O - the moving average crosses over the L/S.
- This indicates the stock is over-bought.
- 5. C/U - the moving average crosses under the L/S.
- This indicates the stock is over-sold.
- 6. High - a new high.
- 7. Low - a new low.
-
- I use this function after updating each day.
-
- List Symbols: Lists all stock symbols in ╥Symbols╙ file.
-
- List Statistics: Lists the beta as compared to the MAX, the price
- change, and the percent change of all stocks. The
- MAX beta will always be 1.00 or 1.00-.
-
-
- Demoware: The Auto Update and Manual Update functions of this demo
- program are inactive. If you can use this program, send
- $75, and I╒ll send a full working version.
